Optimism, Pessimism.. and what lies in-between ..

First of all , I cant believe that I picked such a topic to blog about!! But oh well .. thats whats on my mind right now...

Im going to kick it off with "the" question.. Is the glass half empty of half full?? So far in every personality development session that I have ever attended, I can only remember being told that its better to think the glas is half full.. And I accepted it... half full if was!! But one day I went for a post EAMCET counselling session at Satya Sai Nigamagamam... I remember attending it reluctantly.. and even on entering the place, seeing thousands of students waiting for counselling only made me feel worse..

Krutika, Sruthi and I... walked in... found seats in the last row and sat down.. knowing dat none of us were planning to listen to anything dat was being said.. I looked around wondering what to do as the speakers droned on.. and suddenly my eyes fell on the glossy sheets of the pamphlet advertising about some college.. and i decided to look at the pictures in that leaflet.. and under one of the pictures i saw one line that has been on my mind since that second.. "Optimists say that the glass is half full, Pessimists say that the glass is half empty, but an engineer says that the glass is twice as big as it needs to be!!!

Thats when it hit me... its not just about how you look at it.. It doesnt really matter!!! It all about what you are going to do about it..

For all those of you who always thought that there are two ways of looking at things... welcome to the third way!!! The most useful of them all !!!

I just thought that this was a whole wonderful way of looking at things and couldnt resist sharing it with all of you.. do let me know what u think about it !!

I like to think of myself as the eternal optimist, thats why I would say,it depends on you to make something of these 4 yrs of engineering life. For me the glass is always half full. Cute Post !

A Juste Mileu(or middle way)? Mmm...clever!

But for me, a mix breed of philosophy, politics and economics. My economic mind tell me the glass is not achieving maxmium output by filling itself to full; my politic mind tells me it that it is better to conserve it rather than risk losing the other half; my philosophy mind just gives me another question of why is there a half glass of water...Not helpful, is it?

But yes, good topic that, at least it makes us think! let alone the entertainment factor!

I dint know so much could be with the templates on blogger.... so first of all, three cheers for that!!!

I wouldnt talk abt myself.. indeed it was a boring topic to blog abt because we lazyheads are too damn sleepy to read this stuff but hey... thanks for letting me know the third kind of approach to the glass... It seems so obvious now that I've read it.... Why is it half filled or why is it half empty.... Basically its a waste of space... ;)

nice one

the third kind of approach is what we engineers call ..."an out of the box approach"...nice observation u've in spotting that witty quote..

hahaha, this post actually made me laugh out loud. i literally imagined a person with a bulb light up over their head! like *ting* it finally hit me.

but all jokes apart, i've always taken this approach in life. maybe not middle ground per-se, but more of changing outlook depending on the situation presented to me. trying to incorporate all the different 'sides' of me as i struggle to put together the conflicting perspectives, as anon appropriated depicted above.

great post for discussion! nice! and do come up w/ more realizations like this, it helps put things in the 'tada!' mode. :)
